Memory Techniques Processes
Memory Processes
Memory techniques processes are not just a job for a portion of the brain but for the
entire brain. Have you noticed some people are better at remembering names and others at remembering numbers?
It’s all in how you train your brain to respond to certain visual or vocal clues. Let’s say that the address
you are trying to remember is 2438 Woodland Place. You may want to remember the old limerick …. 2468 all around the
garden gate…. The gate would be made of wood which you could associate with Woodland and remember gate of wood in
association with 2438 (gate) Woodland (wood). We remember things by associating them with other more familiar
things but of course we do it so routinely that the above explanation would make it seem complicated. Names are
usually much harder to remember because we either associate them with how the person looks or we rhyme the name
with something familiar. Remember the rhymes of childhood such as Anna banana, Betty Boop, Polly wolly and so on?
These were our ways of remembering certain names when we came upon them and of course they were also a game. As
children we had less to remember than we have now in adulthood so our memories were sharper and quicker. As we get
older we have more to remember such as our jobs, the rent or mortgage payments, looking after the children,
concerns about extended family and on and on ad infinitum. That is why we so often have a tendency to forget some
things.
Our brain needs diversion by way of exercise and memory techniques processes which can include such things as
learning a new language or word and number games. All three of these techniques require your brain to do something
other than what it has been trained to do and that has become routine. Just as you require time away from your
regular day-to-day routine so does your brain require a change in order to keep it alert and functioning at its
best and at its most efficient.
There are many memory techniques processes and what we have stated here is only one of them. The technique we
refer to is called mnemonics which is the use of rhyme and acronyms in the process of remembering. The basis of all
memory is easy. First associate what you are trying to remember than visualize it. Talk about it or write something
interesting about it If you are learning about a new job than do it and by doing the job consistently you
will than remember it and be able to recall it each day as it is needed. This process can be used
whether you are trying to remember a name, an address, your bank account number, the name of a new client or
company, learning a new language or learning a new job skill. Remember that your brain needs exercise to function
efficiently and to serve you a lifetime ..
