With the focus on dementia and Alzheimer problems so prevalent these days there is more and more focus on memory and what to do tokeep it and improve it. These diseases have always been around but most of the time they were referred to as something that happens to everyone as they get older. No one ever thought about it as something that can happen to anyone. Now more people are interested in saving and enhancing their memory and use improve memory techniques.

If you don’t exercise your muscles you will eventually become weak. As you get older you muscles do not have the strength they used to have normally but without exercise it is worse. If you over exercise doing such things a bench press and lift bars you can become extremely muscular but as you age and stop the exercise there is the danger of becoming muscle bound. The same thing applies to your memory. It needs exercise to be strong and to continue working well. Here are some of the improve memory techniques we can all do at any age but should continue to do them as we get older. Word games such as Scrabble are great for recalling words we may not have used in a while. Reading is an excellent technique. Whether it’s the daily paper or books if done faithfully can improve your memory. If you are elderly and have someone around you can talk with the news in the daily paper is a conversation point and memory recall

If you are elderly and are beginning to feel forgetful and have no one to talk to at home find a place to do some volunteer work. Getting out and mingling with other people is a great way to stimulate your memory. Don’t know where to volunteer? Try the local library and volunteer your time reading to children or adults that are unable to read. The reading and the conversation will stimulate your memory the work will lift your self esteem and you will feel good all the way around.

Do you have a hard time remembering names? Here is another one the many improve memory techniques. The use of mnemonic (pronounced nemonic) memory will help you. For instance, you have just met a man named John and you want to remember this man and what his name is. John is very hefty so you my want to remember him as Big John. You just met a woman named Fanny and she is very quick and walks very fast you may remember her as Frisky Fannie. These are good for your memory but you want to keep them to yourself. Using rhymes and song lyrics is another way to help you remember things.

There are a myriad of improve memory techniques almost as many as there are
infomercials for aerobic exercise. Use only those memory exercises that you feel will help you to improve your memory. But don’t over exercise your brain.
